These rooms, adjoining the west arm of the transept, are a Flamboyant Gothic addition to the Romanesque cathedral.
In the chapter house, the Romanesque capitals by Gislebertus.
A spiral staircase leads to the chapter house, where twenty-three 12th-century capitals are on display. These masterpieces of Romanesque art, attributed to Gislebertus, depict biblical scenes, mythical creatures and sumptuous plant motifs. They originate from the cathedral’s transept and chancel and were removed and replaced with copies in 1863, during work to stabilise the building. They can thus be viewed up close, within an exceptional architectural setting.
