Two musical pieces inspired by literature feature characters embodied by the orchestra and a narrator: Les Caractères by Jean-Luc Girard, based on La Bruyère, paints a musical portrait of figures such as Arrias, Giton and Gnathon, in a playful listening game. L'Histoire du soldat, inspired by a Russian tale and set to music by Stravinsky, combines theatre and music to tell the story of a soldier's struggle against the Devil.
