Conférence: Résistance, renseignement et répression nazie pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale

The prestigious Château de Sully will provide its highly symbolic setting for a historic and commemorative conference of national significance.

This exceptional event will bring together two of the leading experts on the Second World War to shed light on the workings of the domestic Resistance, clandestine intelligence and deportation. The aim is to offer the public an accessible, rigorous and unifying educational experience in a venue steeped in history.

This event will bring together two leading historians: Olivier Wieviorka, a university professor and specialist in the Resistance, Free France and clandestine networks, and Cédric Neveu, a historian at the European Centre for Deported Resistance Fighters at Struthof, a specialist in the Gestapo, German repression and the concentration camp system.

The lecture forms part of a project to preserve memory rooted in local history, centring in particular on Jean Billard, a member of the Alliance network of the Resistance and steward of the Château de Sully during the Occupation. Arrested and subsequently deported under the secret ‘Nacht und Nebel’ programme, he died in the Dachau concentration camp. Beyond this heroic individual story, the lecture aims to situate the history of Sully and Burgundy within the broader context of the French Resistance and the relentless repressive apparatus put in place by Nazi Germany.

The evening will begin with the welcome reception at 6.00 pm, followed by the lectures at 6.30 pm. A session for discussion and exchange with the historians will take place at 8.00 pm. From 8.30 pm, a convivial cocktail reception will be held, subject to booking (please send an email).

Admission to the lecture is free. The cocktail reception costs €15 per person. The proceeds from this reception, as well as any voluntary contributions, will be donated to the Souvenir Français, Autunois-Morvan committee, to support its work in preserving memorials and passing on this heritage to younger generations.
