Dancer and choreographer Koffi Kôkô has been a key figure in the development of contemporary African dance since the 1980s. Born in Benin in a French colony, his upbringing combines the initiation rites of West African Vodun with contemporary European culture. His choreographic work includes over 40 productions, developed from his ritual practice and his collaboration with artists such as Yoshi Oida, Wole Soyinka, Susanne Linke, Mari Carmen Garciá and prima ballerina Patrick Dupond. At the heart of his choreography is the translation of ritual knowledge into contemporary stage art. As an initiated priest, he embodies the knowledge of a third space, the space of communication with the energies present in order to visualise them in an artistic context.

Manos Tsangaris is a composer, percussionist and installation artist. He is regarded as one of the most important exponents of new musical theatre. Since the 1970s, he has been studying the conditions of performance as an essential subject of composition. He calls his working method "scenic anthropology".

Since 2009, Tsangaris has been Professor of Composition at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts. Together with Daniel Ott, he directed the Munich Biennale from 2016 to 2024.
Manos Tsangaris' music theatre compositions are performed at festivals and opera houses all over the world.

In 2024, he was elected president of the Berlin Academy of the Arts.
