L'Essentiel Bourgogne: master the basics of Burgundy wines in 2 hours in Beaune
Would you like to gain a better understanding of Burgundy wines before setting off to explore its villages and estates? The ‘L’Essentiel Bourgogne’ workshop offers you a comprehensive introduction to the world of Burgundy’s great wines.
Over the course of two hours, we’ll guide you through the essential knowledge you need to understand the richness of the region’s vineyards: wine-growing geography, grape varieties, terroirs, the hierarchy of appellations and how to read wine labels. In particular, you’ll discover why two neighbouring plots can produce very different wines and what distinguishes a regional appellation from a Grand Cru.
Following this introduction, it’s time for the tasting. You’ll learn the basics of sensory analysis before taking part in a blind tasting of eight Burgundy wines – both white and red – representing the four levels of appellation: regional, village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru.
This selection of wines from Burgundy’s major wine-growing regions – from Chablis to the Mâconnais, via the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise – will give you a real understanding of the diversity and excellence of Burgundy’s wines.
Suitable for everyone, from beginners to wine enthusiasts, this introductory session is the ideal way to make the most of a wine-tasting holiday in Burgundy.
