Opéra "Dardanus" de Jean-philippe Rameau

Every one of Rameau's lyric tragedies has its share of splendours, but Dardanus perhaps distils even more than the others! The orchestra is the hero, from the Entrée de guerre to the bewitching final chaconne, not forgetting the bassoon in 'Lieux funestes', the work's hit. Emmanuel Resche-Caserta, William Christie's loyal concertmaster, has chosen the as yet unpublished April 1744 version for his first major opera production with Les Ambassadeurs ~ la Grande Écurie. In an ideal cast, Reinoud Van Mechelen reprises the title role in which he has triumphed in recent years.
