In the 17th century, the owners of the areas adjoining the rampart were given the possibility of lowering it. Numerous private mansions were then built, including the Millery mansion, which brings together several former canons' houses. This building highlights the horseshoe-shaped staircase. The organisation of the building allows a view over the surrounding countryside, beyond the rampart. You can read the family motto in bronze lettering on the gate, "Win or die".
