Espace François Mitterrand

  • The Espace François-Mitterrand is located in an oak forest, facing the Bazois plain, on the circuit of the footpath that goes around the Calvaire hill, at the gates of Château-Chinon in the Morvan regional nature park.

    The park is made up of allegorical symbols:
    a massive plantation of sixty-seven oaks (a symbolic tree he was particularly fond of) with the "oak of remembrance" in the centre, planted by Danielle Mitterrand.
    the Salle des Echanges, a crypt with a "laser", a metal sculpture...

In 52 BC, during the Gallic War, the chief Vercingetorix allied his people Arvernes, victorious over Julius Caesar at the siege of Gergovia, to the Aedui at Bibracte to fight the Roman invader at the siege of Alesia (first historical outline of French national unity according to Mitterrand).
