LUNCH:
You’ll enjoy a seasonal, home-cooked menu consisting of a starter, a main course and a dessert, accompanied by an aperitif (kir or fruit juice), a glass of wine and coffee.
AFTERNOON:
You will explore the two museums at the Cité des Présents:
- The Museum of Presidential Gifts:
Formerly known as the Musée du Septennat, the museum displays nearly 375 objects, each telling a story about France and the world, and bearing witness to the arts and traditions of the countries and peoples across five continents. They provide insight into the role of the President of the Republic and are visible reminders of the ceremonies and protocols surrounding this republican figure.
The Museum of the Seven-Year Term opened its doors in 1986 following a donation by François Mitterrand, then President of the Republic, of some of his gifts to the Nièvre General Council. Between 1986 and 1995, more than 4,500 objects were transferred from the Élysée Palace to Château-Chinon. These were gifts presented by French citizens, foreign powers, and artists and craftspeople of all nationalities.
Initially housed in the former hospital in Château-Chinon, built between the 18th and the mid-19th century, the museum expanded in 1992 to include a second building designed by the architect Jean-Jacques Fernier.
The Fashion Museum:
Formerly known as the Costume Museum, the museum displays nearly 150 items of clothing and fashion accessories that bear witness to the historical and socio-cultural context of clothing, as well as the various influences that make fashion a living art form in constant evolution.
Originally the Morvan Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions, the Costume Museum took shape in 1970, when François Mitterrand, then mayor of Château-Chinon, decided to acquire a significant collection of clothing, accessories and everyday objects from the collector Jules Dardy. The museum then moved into the former townhouse of the Buteau-Ravisy family, built in the 18th century, the building in which it is still housed today. The collection has since been continually expanded through acquisitions and donations, including, most recently, the exceptional donation from the Nevers-based fashion designer Pascal Millet.
