With Wakan, which means 'sacred' in Lakota Teton Sioux (a language that is all too rarely taught in our schools), Nathalie Pernette inaugurates a new cycle of creations looking at everything that transcends us.
Inspired as much by the Dionysian feasts of ancient Greece as by the macabre dances of the Middle Ages, by Korean Kut as by Cambodian Apsara, by Amerindian trances as by transalpine...A journey through the sacred dances of the world to tickle the mystery and scratch the mystique.

Inspired as much by the Dionysian feasts of ancient Greece as by the macabre dances of the Middle Ages, by Korean Kut as by Cambodian Apsara, by Amerindian trances as by transalpine tarantellas, the aim of Wakan is clear: to transform the stage into a space of communion, homage and celebration. And indeed, to haunting or frantic rhythms, to gongs or cymbals, to initiation chants or incantatory words, its six performers, extremely supple and prodigiously fast, succeed in releasing the part of excess that is in them - and in rekindling the part of the spiritual that is in us. "I couldn't believe in a god who didn't dance", said Nietzsche. As for Nathalie Pernette, she couldn't believe in a dance that didn't divinise...
