We invite you to visit the church of St-Gervais-sur-Couches and discover the characteristics of Cistercian architecture in this 13th century church, listed as a historic monument since 1911.
A document will be available to help you continue your discovery of this Cistercian architecture, which has influenced many buildings other than the well-known Cistercian abbeys, such as the rural parish churches in our region (north of 71). This is an opportunity to come and admire the Cistercian buildings in our region (abbeys, rural churches of Cistercian influence, barns and other agricultural buildings of Cistercian origin). These are masterpieces of architecture (Romanesque architecture with the introduction of Gothic, mechanisation, water management, etc.) leading to industrial development from the 12th-13th centuries. It's a cultural heritage worth discovering. You can visit some of the rural churches and buildings that are usually closed to the public, to gain a better understanding of the richness of this French heritage, which later became international.
