  • "La trace, une carte d'identité de l'outil dans la construction ancienne" by Michel BONNOT, a specialist in the study of stone tools.

  • "The trace, an identity card for tools in ancient construction".
    In less than a century, archaeology has considerably extended its areas of investigation and understanding. For some years now, construction archaeology has been using a scientific approach: the study of the traces of tools used by stonecutters. It is based on a science known as tribology, and draws on petrography (the study of rock components), ethnography and sociology relating to the stone trades.

    Our lecturer, Michel BONNOT, is very attached to heritage and is involved in a number of associations:
    - President of the "Groupe de Recherches et d'Études Fontenoises", which works on the history, memory and heritage of the village, and publishes an annual review, the "Annales Fontenoises".
    - Secretary of "Fontaines-Patrimoines", which organises guided tours of the village and introductory courses in stone sculpture.
    - Director of the "Groupe Patrimoines 71", which publishes the magazine "Images de Saône-et-Loire", to which he contributes;
    - Member of the "Centre de Castellologie de Bourgogne" (CeCaB), with which he has collaborated on the study of two châteaux (Chamilly and Mazoncle).

    Passionate about Roman archaeology and medieval history.
    He now specialises in the study of stone tools and developments in construction archaeology.
    In Fontaines, he has created the "Maison du Patrimoine", with a museum trail entitled "From Stone to Work", dedicated to the history of the village's quarrymen, stonemasons and stone sculptors, and to the traditional tools used in these trades.

    Admission is free (hats off for the lecturer). The Salle des Fêtes in Saint-Gervais-sur-Couches is limited to 50 places, so booking is possible (but not compulsory).
    The conference is open to all (even non-members).
