Born in 1947, Ms Corvol studied humanities at university. After obtaining a bachelor's degree (1969) and a master's degree (1970) in history, she passed the CAPES in history and geography in 1971 and the agrégation in history in 1972. She became a research fellow at the C.N.R.S. in 1980, and co-founded the Groupe d'Histoire des Forêts Françaises the following year. She was awarded a doctorate in literature and humanities in 1982, and went on to pursue both an academic and a research career at the C.N.R.S., where she became director in 1985. That same year, she became associate professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Elected President of the Groupe des Forêts Françaises in 1988, she became a full member of the Académie d'agriculture de France in 2015.
A member of the "biodiversity" and "management of trees in historic parks and gardens" commissions at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, she is also involved in research administration and the management of national and European scientific programmes in her specialist field. She has curated exhibitions with catalogues at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, the Château de Vincennes, the Musée de l'Histoire de France and the Musée de l'Ile-de-France. She has been awarded several decorations (Commander of the Order of Agricultural Merit, Knight of the Legion of Honour, etc.).
The importance of forests in the current environmental debate is well known, particularly in the Morvan region where forestation and clear-cutting regularly fuel virulent controversy. In this respect, the light of history can provide guidance for future choices.
As usual, the conference will be open to the public. Admission is €5.00, except for paid-up members of the Société Eduenne.
