The Orchestre de Guitares de l'Yonne was founded in 1995 by four teachers from the Yonne region: Emmanuelle Clinet, Florence Sodoyer, Guy Chapalain and Jean-Michel Solesle.

Since 2022, the orchestra has grown to include Isabelle François and her mandolin students.
We now form a plectrum orchestra (2 mandolin sections, 1 mandola section (currently played by guitars), 1 guitar section and 1 bass section (cello or bass guitar).
The ensemble currently comprises around thirty musicians.

Every year, the orchestra works on a new programme during a summer course, then meets up again throughout the year to perform its repertoire in concert.
As part of its activities, the orchestra takes part in festivals in France and Europe.
(Deinze and Ghent in Belgium, Alpnach in Switzerland, Trondheim in Norway, Avignon, Le Havre...)

The Orchestre de Guitares et de Mandolines de l'Yonne has set itself the goal of enriching the orchestral repertoire. It has commissioned works from renowned composers, and has had the pleasure of premiering many of them (works by Sébastien Vachez, Olivier Bensa, Jorge Cardoso, Thierry Tisserand, Guy Chapalain).
