The Paris Commune is a significant event in the French imagination that continues to be invoked during demonstrations in opposition to the government. It is often overlooked that the Paris Commune was not the only Communard event, but rather an insurrectionary movement that swept through several provincial towns, including the factory town of Le Creusot. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Commune, the Creusot Montceau Ecomuseum emphasizes the specificity of the events in Le Creusot in national and local history, known in particular thanks to the testimonies of the militant worker and mayor of the time Jean-Baptiste Dumay. The proposed tour offers a panorama of the situation in Le Creusot at the end of the Second Empire, reintegrating a very short event (3 days) into the long history of the city. This re-reading of the Creusot Commune goes beyond the opposition between the tutelary figures of the employers and the workers to reveal the diversity of social circles, from the influence of Parisian leaders to the role of the press and women, drawing the thread of its legacies to the social movements of our time.
