The year 1837 was marked by the creation of an integrated establishment, known as Schneider frères et Cie, the starting point of a Burgundian, French and even worldwide epic. For four generations, the Schneider family was to mark the life of the mining, metallurgical and mechanical engineering industries, while turning its emblematic site at Le Creusot into a technical, organisational and social laboratory.
The founders of the dynasty, Adolphe and Eugène Schneider, provided the decisive impetus for a plant that had been plagued by setbacks ever since its creation. With their respective skills, Henri, Eugène II and Charles Schneider each in turn left a deep and specific mark on the history of the company.
This two-part lecture is part of the fortieth anniversary of the François Bourdon Academy. Its aim is to highlight the strong ties that have united a great family of ironmasters, the Schneiders, and an industrial town that remains one of the bastions of French industry: Le Creusot.
Conference room of the François Bourdon Academy on 25 November at 6.30pm.
The lecture is free and open to all.
